BAKER CITY, Ore. - A Milwaukie man was killed and his wife was injured Monday night after the motorcycle they were on collided with a Black Angus cow near here.

Oregon State Police identified the man as 53-year-old Leigh Spurlock and his wife as 48-year-old Donna Spurlock.

She was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries, police said.
According to state police, they were riding a 2006 BMW motorcycle south on Highway 7 about 35 miles southwest of Baker City when it struck a cow that was in the road about 8 p.m. The force of the crash threw the Spurlocks off the motorcycle. Both were wearing helmets.
A passing driver, who just happened to be an emergency room doctor from La Grande, stopped to help the couple while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.

Leigh Spurlock was pronounced dead at the scene. The cow was killed in the crash.

The area where the crash occurred in southwest Baker County is designated as open range for cattle, state police said.
